Sorolla’s pictorial production reaches four thousand two hundred works in oil, watercolor and gouache. Blanca Pons-Sorolla has dedicated more than three decades to systematically record, study and catalog this vast set and to order it in a chronological reasoned catalog. The first installment of this work in several volumes will come to light in 2019, coinciding with the moment of great international recognition of the painter of the monographic exhibitions of the National Gallery in London and the National Gallery of Ireland in Dublin. The need to make a review of the Sorolla Museum catalog has motivated the publication of the catalogue raisonné to begin with the important set of works that this institution preserves, fundamental for the knowledge of the Valencian artist. This preliminary volume includes, in addition to the almost one thousand three hundred paintings of the Museum, an exhaustive bio-chronology of Sorolla, the updated general bibliography on the painter, the repertoire of his exhibitions and a methodological introduction on the cataloging of his pictorial work. This is, therefore, the reference volume for the rest of Sorolla’s catalogue raisonné.
